Distinguish a fan fault from an airflow concern
Describe the available fan speeds, whether the sound has changed and whether the issue is constant or intermittent. If you know whether air is ducted outdoors or recirculated, include that information. Mention any normal filter maintenance or kitchen alterations already undertaken. A running fan with poor extraction does not by itself establish that the motor is faulty.
Lighting, controls and access at height
Tell us whether the lamps, display and controls respond separately. For an island, ceiling or high-mounted hood, give the approximate mounting arrangement and access restrictions. Do not climb onto worktops or remove electrical covers to locate the label. Ductwork alterations and the appliance’s own repair may need different scopes, so describe both if you suspect a fitting problem.

When replacing a fitted hood, check the mounting space, duct or recirculation arrangement and access for removal. Discuss changes to cupboards, outlets or electrical connections before agreeing the installation.

Can you assess a hood when the lights still work?
Yes. Explain that the lighting works and describe what happens when you request extraction. A working lamp does not confirm the condition of the fan or its controls, and the exact hood model remains important.
Is new ducting included in a cooker hood repair?
Not automatically. Tell the office if you also need ducting, a new outlet or a change of fitting. Those works must be assessed and agreed rather than assumed to be part of replacing an appliance component.
